The Project

Ceiling-Mounted Hot Aisle Containment Project

The Challenge

Design and implement a ceiling hung system to support integrated cooling coils, fans, bus bar power system, LED lighting, ladder rack for communication cables and Hot Aisle Containment (HAC) structure to also accommodate various height roll-in cabinets.

The AFCO Solution

We designed a ceiling-hung sheet-metal structure to house integrated cooling coils, fans, bus bar power system and ladder rack for communication cables. The HAC structure design was integrated and also supported ceiling hung sheet metal structure. We designed new double-hung vertical containment panels that provided a minimum of 12” and up to 26” of adjustment to accommodate different height cabinets. We designed different vertical panels with air sealed openings for ladder rack and bus bars egress between PODS.

The Project

Floor-supported cold aisle containment project

The Challenge

Design and implement a floor-supported Hot Aisle Containment (HAC) structure that supports a bus bar power system, ladder rack for Communication cables, LED lights, and a sheet-metal housing containing cooling coils, fans and controls for cooling system. Design a 4-post rack with side car cable management that fit into the floor supported HAC structure. Racks were permitted to be bolted to frame to provide additional rigidity.

The AFCO Solution

We designed a modular structural frame constructed of welded components that were bolted together in the field. Once the frame was erected, tubular 4-post racks and side car cable management was put in place and bolted to the floor and frame to provide additional rigidity for Seismic certification. Hinged acrylic panels supported by the HAC frame system were located underneath the sheet-metal housing, providing easy access for maintenance to coils, piping and controls of the cooling system. Various support brackets were designed to attach to the modular frame supporting bus bar and ladder rack system. Additional translucent panels were bolted onto the perimeter of the HAC frame system to provide natural light.

The Project

Floor-supported hot aisle containment project

The Challenge

Design and build a 9-ft. Cold Aisle containment (CAC) structure where the CAC aisle and 56RU cabinet frame are constructed from the same aluminum extruded material. This floor supported structure design called for adjacent cabinets to share cabinet posts that also doubled as a supported post for the CAC structure. On day one each aisle would contain a few network and server cabinets constructed as part of the system. Empty cabinet positions (void of stationary cabinets) within the cabinet row needed to accommodate either third-party roll-in cabinets or house additional stationary cabinets built from kits on-site. In addition, this system had to accommodate a 10-12 RU smaller cabinet with the same basic features as the 56RU. These smaller cabinets would hang in each “cabinet position” within the cabinet row, whether that cabinet position accommodated a stationary built cabinet or roll in.

The AFCO Solution

Our design team used a heavy duty extrusion to construct a unique system that bolted together on-site, including the features as stated in the requirements above. Construction kits were built to accommodate the transition of this system to meet the following add on requirements: Kit to build a stationary network cabinet, Kit to build a stationary server cabinet.
