Extreme High Density EHD 10*

Overview

The Extreme High-Density (EHD) 10 was designed specifically utilizing AFCO System’s room-balancing Kool-IT™ technology to handle heat loads of up to 24kW within conventional datacenter design. At these densities, clients can postpone the need to deploy CAPEX-intensive, water-cooled enclosures and the increased maintenance associated with them. The industry’s desire to deploy blade center technology drove the EHD 10 design and our unique rear plenum extension to handle blade chassis’ high-pressure airflow. Engineered for extreme, high-density applications, the exceptional thermal control is achieved through continuous monitoring and management of exhaust temperatures and fan speed regulation through voltage modulation. This, in conjunction with the adjustable plenum apertures and vertical exhaust plenum compartment, maintains the desired enclosure temperature set point.

Field Tested by Dell
The AFCO EHD 10 enclosure was tested over an 8-hour period (see chart above) in a 18.5kW blade server environment, successfully cooling five fully populated 7-U blade chassis. And, while the testing environment was as close to real world as you can get, conditions in this leading global computer manufacturer’s testing facilities were less than optimal in terms of static pressure, cooling capacity and ambient and under-floor air temperatures.

But the EHD 10 enclosure met these challenges—and them some—effectively dissipating heat while the blade servers ramped up to 80% capacity over the 8-hour testing period.

Kool-IT™ Technology*
The EHD 10 utilizes AFCO’s advanced Kool-IT™ air-cooled technology engineered to accommodate blade servers’ extremely high densities. The system acts as an extension of the CRAC, giving datacenter managers control of air temperature at the enclosure level. This system actively monitors and balances internal heat loads, utilizing under-floor cool air and ambient computer room temperature, ensuring a stable and reliable operating environment.

The EHD 10 also communicates with AFCO’s resource manager, which reads the enclosure, displays equipment status and creates alarm and event notifications.
